The Greek Cypriot Wedding of Anna & Christos in Birmingham and Leicester

Anna and Christos’ wedding in Birmingham and Leicester was a delight to photograph. We started from Anna’s bridal preparation at her family house in Leicester. In true Greek Cypriot style, my assistant Caroline and I were welcomed into an abundant home buzzing with family and friends of all ages. It was a beautiful wedding day and made for a great setting for shots of our bride, Anna. We did our usual close ups but my favourite was capturing Anna getting ready in her parents bedroom and having her mother and fathers wedding photo in the shot with her. As Greeks we have many traditions and I captured each of them and their intricate details, including the tying of the red scarf and the traditional band playing.   Meanwhile whilst the bridal preparation was taking place, second wedding Photographers Thekla and Kristian were at Christos’ house in North London photographing the grooms preparation. He too had Greek Cypriot wedding traditions being carried out, including being shaven whilst accompanied by traditional music. The sense of fun and charisma was captured in these images amongst Christos and his groomsmen.   The next Photography series was the waiting at the church. At the same time […]

There is no other type of a faith wedding like a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony. Vibrant, decorative, and beautifully emotional, they are full of wonderful photo opportunities as you can see from this collection of images from Elsa and Michael’s Greek wedding in London. Elsa and Michael’s wedding day started in a smart Kensington hotel. The couple had planned a small, elegant London wedding, choosing Michael’s brother as the best man, and Elsa’s sister as her maid of honour. The close loving and relationship with their family and friends was evident as I moved between the two rooms, photographing the excited bride and groom as they readied themselves for their big moment. They may have planned an intimate affair, but private weddings in London don’t stay private when you hold them on the same day as the Notting Hill Carnival! Elsa was amused to be applauded by festival goers as she arrived at the church. It was just one of many highlights of joyous event. Despite living in Cambridge, the couple drawn to London’s magnificent St Sophia’s on Moscow Road in Bayswater. This incredible church is a London wedding Photographer’s dream. The colour and detail in the cathedral is simply astounding, and it provided […]

Vasoula and Imran’s wedding at the Langham Hotel in London was a beautiful and unique event to photograph, bringing two different cultures together. We were three wedding photographers including myself allocated to this job, along with Caroline as assistant and the Videographers Johanna and Apos from Urban Cinematography. Caroline and I started with the bridal preparation at Vasoula’s parents home in Cockfosters, North London. Vasoula was a dream to photograph, with such a loving and warm family. I captured the moments held between her and her father, which was so beautiful to see. We also did a small amount of boudoir style shots, prior to the putting on of the dress. The next series of photographs shows the pre-marital Greek Cypriot traditions. I photographed the tying of the red ribbon around Vasoula’s waist and some special moments with her bridal party and parents. Meanwhile the other 2 Photographers Thekla and Krisztian, were photographing the grooms preparation at Imran’s house. We loved doing the black and white shots of Imran getting a haircut! Then we moved for the wedding at the Langham Hotel in Central London. The wedding ceremony and reception was held in this prestigious hotel which was decorated with white. It was […]

The wedding of Michaella and Panayiotis in St Sophia and the Four Seasons Hotel in London The first thing you notice when you meet Michaella and Panagiotis is how much they both smile when they look at each other! This beautiful couple got married a few days before Christmas at Saint Sophia church the Greek Cathedral in Bayswater London. The reception held at Four Seasons Hotel at Park Lane in an extremely beautiful room amazingly decorated for this superb wedding. “ – Mom lets play dress up one more time!” The day started with the bridal preparation at Michaela’s home in New Barnet, North London. We arrived early as we wanted to capture every moment of our beautiful bride’s preparation. Michaella chose to wear a unique delicate dress combined with statement jewelries that were handmade by her cousin. Her mother along with her koumbara (matron of of honour) helped her put the dress on; the moment was really emotional and it was a lovely time for us to photograph! Michaela’s result was chic and artistic. Lenya, Michaella’s wonderful mother, took care of every detail! With an extremely creative attitude and a sharp eye for detail she prepared everything from the bride’s boutique, home’s […]

Island Varkiza – Wedding & Christening (updated) – Travelling just a few kilometres outside of Athens one can encounter this immensely beautiful location; Island Varkiza. An idyllic setting where the sun never fails to shine. Pavlina and Nikos chose to have a dual celebration of their son Miltiadi’s christening and their wedding on the same day. This is a choice many people seem to prefer nowadays. The decoration in Island Varkiza venue was absolutely breathtaking thanks to the work of Krista and Maria Maroulidou from the Guest Book. Being from Crete, the beautiful couple along with their guests indulged in a traditional Greek – Cretan wedding celebration in Athens. A Cretan wedding celebration cannot be considered complete unless the famous “lyraris” is present, encouraging the guests to sing along to the captivating rhythm of the traditional “Mantinades”. For this special occasion, the very charismatic Nikos Zoidakis created an enchanting celebratory atmosphere in which everyone took delight in. The younger children were endlessly entertained by the magician who was charming them with his tricks and contagious laughter. The wedding ceremony took place in the small picturesque chapel at the Island Varkiza, Athens – The beautiful wedding ceremony followed by the christening of little […]

A destination wedding Photography and Video in Halkidiki, Greece

As much as I love Photography and Video in London, getting the opportunity to travel abroad is a fantastic treat, especially in my home-country Greece. So it was with enormous excitement that Efthymia and Genti chose our wedding Photography and Videography package for their destination wedding in Greece. Now living in the US, Efthymia was born in Halkidiki. Her parents still live there so she was able to get ready in her childhood home. Efthymia was a classically beautiful bride in her strapless sweetheart wedding gown with a fabulously full ruffled skirt. The pure white dress was offset sensationally by her bridesmaids, whom she had chosen vivid purple strapless dresses for, and her matron of honour, who wore hot pink. The gardens were full of purple and white flowers, and we had a lot of fun taking photos before the bride, her family, and friends made their way to the church on foot, accompanied by musicians and merriment. I loved how this couple incorporated touching and fun traditions into their day, linking their religion and heritage with their future. Efthymia wrote the names of her single friends on the soles of her shoes on the morning of her wedding, with superstition […]

Georgina & Evros’ Greek-Cypriot wedding in London

During my time as a Greek Wedding Photographer in London I have been to many Greek-Cypriot weddings. Some couples adapt customs to fit their more modern lives while others, like Georgina and Evros, retain many elements of their heritage and celebrate their wedding day in a thoroughly traditional manner. Modern or traditional, every couple is unique, which makes my job as a Greek Photographer varied and enjoyable. While the bride and groom were born in London, their parents were born in Cyprus, so it was not surprising to see many traditional included in the occasion. Our day started at Georgina’s home, as her seven bridesmaids helped her get ready for her big day, with the preparation of the bride and groom being almost as important as the wedding ceremony itself. Georgina incorporated the Stolisma into her pre-wedding rituals, complete with the traditional lute and violin. After leaving Georgina to finish getting ready and get herself to the church, I joined the festivities at Evros’ house where his groomsmen were helping him get dressed, and where he was also symbolically tied with a red scarf. The setting of the ceremony was the Greek Orthodox Church of St John the Baptist in […]

Greek wedding photography in Surrey | Natalie & James

Any bride and groom can tell you that one of the most challenging aspects of planning a wedding is making both families happy. As much as it is “their” day, a marriage also represents the joining together of two families, and it is important to incorporate appropriate customs to respect both the bride’s and the groom’s backgrounds, as Natalie and James did when they wed in Kingston-Upon-Thames. Natalie’s family is British-Greek Cypriot and James’ is British, and their special day was very much a fusion of each heritage. The service took place at St George Greek Orthodox Church in Kingston-Upon-Thames. The early summer weather was the sort to make my wedding photographer heart sing, with just a few fluffy white clouds punctuating the azure blue skies. Natalie was a natural in front of the camera and she and her three bridesmaids made the most of their time together as they got ready for the ceremony. Natalie was a breathtaking bride, and it was a delight to witness the clear pride her parents had in their beautiful daughter as she prepared to step into the next stage of her life. Natalie’s parents’ garden was the perfect backdrop for some photos of […]

Christina & Dionysis’ destination wedding in Cyclades Islands

As a destination wedding photographer, I aim to capture the emotions conveyed by the couple as well as their guests, in order to provide an authentic and joyful interpretation of the event along with the beauty of the area. My camera is the means by which these moments are seized, preserved and immortalised. Although every wedding is genuinely unique, there are some moments and some events that truly transcend expectations, in that words would simply fail them. The beauty of the camera is that it is a vehicle through which these indescribable moments can be recorded and conveyed. In doing so, they evolve beyond the mere art of wedding photography as they transmit so much in and of themselves. What follows is one of the best examples of these reflections in practice! On the Cycladic islands of Paros and Mykonos in the heart of the Aegean, the love of two people, for the sea, for life, was consummated with a truly original wedding. Thanks to my long-time friend and sister of the groom, Marian, I was there to portray their precious moments and tell their inimitable story. It was not a surprise that a day before the destination wedding we seemed to have ‘lost’ […]

Bobbie & Dimitri | Wedding photography and video at Orsett Hall, Essex

Dimitri and Bobbie chose to celebrate their wedding at Orsett Hall when they tied the knot. Both from Cypriot Greek families, the couple incorporated many recognisable traditions into their big day which started with the Stolisma at their respective family homes. As the bride and groom to be were getting ready at the same time, we used two teams for the wedding photography and video. If you ever doubt that a wedding, whether a religious celebration of the sacrament of Matrimony is still relevant, then you only need to watch the highlights of this wedding. It is fair to say that Dimitri and Bobbie have not had the easiest of times and that they have had to face circumstances that other couples are lucky never to endure. As strong as their love is, these newlyweds know that family is crucial to the success of any marriage, and nothing shows the importance of family better than a Greek wedding. From the Stolisma, which involves the family and friends of the bride and groom helping them dress and prepare for the wedding, to the ceremony itself and the group dancing at the reception, the involvement of family is symbolic of the love […]

Birmingham Greek wedding photography and video | Eleni & Bradley

We have done the photography and videography for hundreds of couples in countless locations, but we have never shot a wedding reception in the National Motorcycle Museum until we were asked to do the Birmingham Greek wedding photography for Eleni and Bradley. The theme for the wedding was classically romantic, with a pure white colour scheme given sparkle with a liberal application of crystals, diamante and diamonds. We had a team at Eleni’s house to capture the fun and emotion of the Greek-Cypriot Stolisma. The custom is easily recognisable in the photos by the red sash, or zoni, that Eleni’s family passed around her waist as a blessing and sign of fertility, and the burning of incense as a prayer for protection. All of this takes place to the accompaniment of traditional songs to create an atmosphere that is both sentimental and uplifting. In a world that can sometimes feel too fast-paced an impersonal, traditions like the Stolisma act as a touchstone for faith and family values. The couple chose the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and St Luke in Birmingham. There is nothing like the wonder that comes from walking into a Greek Orthodox church for the […]

What do you get when you take a British-Greek bride and a British-Nigerian groom? The answer is a spectacular wedding full of music, colours and laughter! We loved having the opportunity to do Greek and Nigerian wedding photography and video for the couple, recording all the wonderful moments of their wedding at Rosewood Hotel.  A typical wedding starts on the morning of the wedding, with a videographer and photographer following the couple as they prepare to walk down the aisle. Gabriella agreed about her wedding album to start even earlier, and we were there when she had her final dress fitting at the Bridal Caprice Boutique in Shepherds Bush. It was surprisingly touching to photograph beautiful Gabriella seeing herself as a “bride” for the first time, and the wedding boutique was a fantastic backdrop for a photo shoot. The couple had chosen a Greek Orthodox ceremony at the All Saints church in Camden Town, followed by a celebration for their wedding at Rosewood Hotel in central London. We followed Gabriella as she and her bridesmaids prepared themselves in one of the hotel’s luxurious suites.   Gabriella’s preparation photos are a fantastic example of how to get it right. She chose […]
